Project Description
SQL Chart renders a chart from SQL data. Simply create a query that returns data in two columns. First column for X axis and second for Y.

Features
  • Render a chart from SQL data
  • Change chart type: point, line, bar, pie, etc.
  • Export chart as image, as CSV, or create HTML report

Notes
  • Tested with SSMS 10.0 (aka Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2008)
  • Works for English version of SSMS, may not work for other languages
  • Works fine with 5k records, untested behaviors for anything above

Close all SSMS windows before running the installer. Installer automatically integrates add-in to SSMS.

Usage
  • Open SSMS and connect to an SQL instance
  • Make an SQL query that returns at least two columns - first column for X, any other for Y axis
  • Select the SQL query code in text editor, example
SELECT [Name], [Stock], [Orders]
FROM [sample].[dbo].[Fruit] /* Note: must contain database name in query */
  • Select Tools in menu, click SQL Chart
  • Popup window displays a chart

Sample data
CREATE DATABASE [Sample]
GO

USE [Sample]
GO

CREATE TABLE Fruit ( Id int IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, Name nvarchar(50) NULL, Stock int NULL, Orders int NULL )
GO

INSERT INTO Fruit (Name, Stock, Orders) VALUES ('apple', 10, 8)
INSERT INTO Fruit (Name, Stock, Orders) VALUES ('cherry', 7, 9)
INSERT INTO Fruit (Name, Stock, Orders) VALUES ('orange', 15, 12)
INSERT INTO Fruit (Name, Stock, Orders) VALUES ('kiwi', 9, 8)
INSERT INTO Fruit (Name, Stock, Orders) VALUES ('banana', 12, 15)
